We are seeking an enthusiastic and committed Assistant Person in Charge (APIC) to join the leadership team of our new Ethos Care home in Ballygunner, Waterford, opening early 2026. This is an excellent opportunity to take on a senior leadership role within a supportive and forward-thinking organisation.
About the Role
We are delighted to offer an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Person in Charge (APIC) to join the opening team at Havenwood, Ballygunner. This is a unique chance to play a key leadership role in establishing a brand-new nursing home and shaping a culture of excellence from the very beginning.
Working closely with the Person in Charge (PIC), you will support the overall management of the centre, ensuring the highest standards of care, compliance, and staff support are achieved. You will be instrumental in creating a warm, welcoming, and person-centred environment where residents feel valued and staff feel supported to thrive.
Key Responsibilities
Act as Person in Charge in the absence of the PIC, ensuring full compliance with HIQA standards and regulatory requirements.
Support the PIC in the day-to-day running of the home, including staffing, clinical governance, and operational management.
Champion a culture of person-centred care, ensuring each resident’s dignity, choice, and independence are respected at all times.
Support and oversee safeguarding practices, ensuring a safe and secure environment for all residents.
Lead, motivate, and support the nursing and care teams, promoting a positive and collaborative workplace culture.
Act as a mentor and clinical role model, supporting staff development, training, and continuous improvement.
Contribute to building a strong, values-led team as part of the home’s opening and ongoing development.
Participate in the on-call rota and work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
Qualifications & Experience
Third-level nursing degree and active NMBI registration with PIN.
Minimum 6 years post-registration nursing experience.
Minimum 2 years’ experience in a nursing home environment.
Minimum 2 years’ management experience.
Post-registration qualification in healthcare management (or willingness to complete).
Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
